About Rotary

So you ask, what is Rotary?

Rotary is the oldest service organisation in the world established in 1905. It brings together more than 1.2 million people: friends, neighbours, business colleagues, leaders and problem solvers who use their skills and time to take action and create lasting change to improve the lives of others. Together with the World Health Organization and UNICEF Rotary launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988.

In 2007, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation joined and since 2013, the Gates Foundation has matched every $1 Rotary donates to polio eradication 2-to-1, contributing more than $1.6 billion. We’ve reduced the number of polio cases by 99.9 percent and reached more than 2.5 billion children with the vaccine.

What does the Rotary Club of Flemington Kensington do?

We have been supporting local and international communities since 1987. In that time our members and families have raised over $500,000 which has been donated to those in need.

  • We operate 2 Opportunity Shops at 444 Racecourse Road Flemington and 135 Railway Pde Werribee which fund our work. Run by volunteers!

  • We run an annual Art Show celebrating community.

  • We work with partners to have a bigger impact.

We make a difference!

Rotary gives you an opportunity to work with others on important issues affecting our community, our nation, and the world. We also have a lot of fun, whether we’re socializing or working together on service projects. Our members connect at fortnightly meetings and learn from business experts, political and civic leaders, and entrepreneurs, who help us stay informed on topics that are relevant to our community.

Who do we help?

Many of our projects involve local schools and community service organisations. We have a strong focus on youth and education, providing scholarships to local schools, and funding students to participate in leadership, science and international studies programs. Our perpetual scholarships are awarded annually to senior students at Mount Alexander College and Kensington Community High School in the name of past members Del King and Eugene Odachowski.

We have also funded 14 outgoing/ incoming Youth Exchange students who spend 12 months in another country.

We support local agencies and organisations such as:

Flemington Community Centre One Good Ride

Farnham Street Neighbourhood Learning Centre The Venny

Kensington Neighourhood House Helping Hand
